Patricia A. Tucker, 66, of Middletown, passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2020 after a brief illness. Although Pat left us much too soon, she lived her life fully, travelled the world, and gave generously of her time to others. Pat loved preparing and sharing food with friends and family; her Christmas cookies were legendary, and anticipated eagerly each December. After over 20 years as a mental health professional, Pat changed careers and started her own personal chef business, which brought her as much joy as it brought to her happy and loyal clients. Pat was an active member of the Rotary Club of Middletown for over 20 years, serving on its board of directors, as its Secretary, and more recently, as Club President. An avid reader, Pat especially loved participating in the club’s literacy focused projects. She started and led the “One Book” program on behalf of Rotary for the City of Middletown. She was named a “Paul Harris Fellow” by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world. Pat was born in Allentown, PA and raised in Storrs. She graduated from Edwin O. Smith School, in 1972, earned a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Tufts University, and a Master’s degree from the University of Connecticut. Pat is survived by her sister, Jane (Tucker) Vergnes, two nieces, and one grand-niece, in addition to two honorary nephews and many dear friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Jesse and Sarah Tucker. Pat’s family would appreciate donations in her memory to the American Cancer Society or the Rotary Foundation’s education and literacy focus area.

Letter from Patty's sister, Jane:

This is Pat Tucker’s sister, Jane Tucker Vergnes (EOS Class of 1970). Please convey my best wishes to the members of your class  as you gather and celebrate this milestone. I know Pat was looking forward to it and would have loved to join you.

I would appreciate it if you would pass along my contact information to any classmates who are interested in catching up. I remember many members of your class and was able to name half of Pat’s classmates from a third grade Storrs Grammar School picture when I was going through her photos recently.

You are probably aware that Pat died at home of cancer on November 2, 2020 shortly after her terminal diagnosis. It was a shock to loose her so suddenly and unexpectedly.

I have contact information for Jill Palmer Barger and Joyce St Lawrence but have lost contact details for  David Kinsman. I would also love to contact Janet McMillan. I have not seen David Gant since 1986. I know he did not graduate with you, but if anyone has information about him I would appreciate it. He was a good friend, also part of my church family, as well as Pat’s friend and classmate. She lost touch with him several years ago.

Seeing the list of attendees posted on your website brought back years of great memories of the members of your class.  I am a social media drop out (or a never dropped in), but am on Linked In. The best way to contact me is at this gmail address.

I currently reside in Lexington, Kentucky where my older daughter moved with her husband 17 years ago. If any of your classmates are bourbon aficionados and come out this way I would be pleased to assist with a bourbon tour. I am still working full time but plan to ease into retirement over the next couple of years. Losing Pat has been a brutal reminder of life’s uncertainties and the importance of making the most of the gift of each day.

Hope you all have a great time. Pat will be with you in spirit.
